Position Announcement: Social Epidemiologist/Program Evaluator

The Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) is a research center dedicated to
improving the health of Chicago's urban communities. Led by a team of committed and energetic social epidemiologists, the Institute provides evidence-based examination of community health status, the effectiveness of interventions and clinical care, and health-care delivery methodologies. Since 2000, SUHI has implemented and evaluated a number of interventions focused on reducing the health burden that asthma exerts on some of Chicago's most vulnerable communities.
We are seeking an epidemiologist to:
·         assist in the evaluation of our current asthma initiatives;
·         conduct more detailed analyses of data gathered via past initiatives;
·         contribute to grant writing and the preparation of manuscripts for publication;
·         facilitate the streamlining of evaluation and analyses processes across projects.
Specific responsibilities may include: assisting with data collection; designing and maintaining databases; analyzing results using appropriate statistical methods; preparing data for presentation (both written and oral); training staff on data collection and data entry; oversight of the data collection and data entry processes; periodic monitoring of the data to ensure its quality and integrity; troubleshooting to address any issues in data collection, data entry and analysis that may arise; and, reviewing the literature. This individual will work under the guidance of the Epidemiologist III who directs Sinai's Asthma Initiatives. The selected applicant will also be expected to assist on other SUHI projects and work on the intellectual development of the Institute as a whole as time allows.

The successful applicant should:
·         Have an M.P.H. or an M.S. in Epidemiology, Evaluation, or a closely related field
·         Have solid analytical skills, including experience with a statistical programming package (preferably SAS)
·         Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences
·         Be comfortable working with others in a team environment
·         Be able to multi-task and prioritize
·         Have a working knowledge of Microsoft products including: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
An interest in social epidemiology and the use of epidemiological research and investigation as tools in addressing the needs of urban and vulnerable communities are a plus.
