Pathways to Solutions: Collaborative, Strengths-Based Family Therapy
About the Speaker:
Matthew Selekman is a family therapist and addictions counselor in private practice and the co-director of Partners for Collaborative Solutions (www.partners4change.net), an international family therapy training and consulting firm in Evanston, IL. Matthew specializes in the treatment of self-injury, eating disorders, substance abuse, school disruptive behaviors, oppositional defiant disorder, and anger management difficulties of children, adolescents, and adults. About the Workshop: In this "hands on" practice-oriented workshop, participants will learn a collaborative strengths-based brief therapy approach that capitalizes on the strengths and resources of adolescents, children, and their families, key resource people from their social networks, and involved helpers from larger systems to co-construct solutions. A special emphasis will be placed on the creative use of self to co-create with youth and their families compelling future realities. The following learning objectives will be the focus of this workshop: 1) Tailor-fit the relationship of choice with clients' unique cooperative styles to build therapeutic alliances 2) Use therapeutic questions to elicit key client strengths, establish well-formulated treatment goals, and co-create future workable realities 3) Effectively engage reluctant and challenging youth and angry, highly pessimistic, laissez-faire, and mental health and substance abuse-impaired guardians 4) Design, match, and implement therapeutic experiments and rituals to strengthen parent/caretaker relationship with the child/adolescent Registration: To register, visit www.mercyhome.org/speaker-series-pathways-to-solutions Cost: The cost for this event is $25.00.
